These People Help Run the Country

"I hope all the queers are thrilled to see him. I'm sure there will be a couple of legislative fruitloops there in the audience." - North Carolina Republican Representative Larry Brown (pictured above), in an email to 60 recipients about Democratic House Speaker Joe Hackney. Brown was referring to the fact that Hackney was receiving an award from Equality NC. The email, dated September 27, was revealed yesterday by CNN.  Soooo, Larry here doesn't like queers, and evidently he thinks it's smart to send a mass email advertising the fact. That's cool. To prove that crippling stupidity is a non-partisan issue, I offer these words, spoken by an aide to Democratic candidate Jerry Brown about Brown's opponent, Meg Whitman: "What about saying she's a whore?" This was the aide's brilliant campaign idea, inadvertently recorded on a conference call. So, to summarize, homophobes and misogynists are alive and well in government. Awesome. I wonder where kids learn these attitudes and behaviors? Baffling, isn't it?
